Patrol Division

The patrol division is the largest group and considered the primary function within the division of police. Officers in this division respond to calls for service, effectively address proactive criminal enforcement, and enforce village ordinances and violations of the Ohio Revised Code. This division is usually the first line of contact for persons requesting help and citizens within the community and therefore officers present themselves in a professional and courteous manner and focus on community policing.

Uniformed Mobile Patrol

The uniformed patrol unit consists of uniformed officers in white marked police cruisers responding to calls for service and enforcing village ordinances and the Ohio Revised Code. Uniform officers are responsible for making, at most times, first contact with the community, victims and offenders. As the patrol officers are making first contact with the public they present themselves in a professional and courteous manner. Officers dress during dayshift in what is known as "class a" uniforms. These uniforms consist of black pants with pleats and black uniform shirt with division of police patches on each sleeve, a badge listing the officers unit number above the left breast pocket, and a name plate above the right breast pocket. Officers during the evening shift wear a more tactically sound and utility minded uniform. The evening hours bring on tasks such as searching through foliage in the dark, climbing in and around trucks and other vehicles, and an increased possibility of bar fights, domestic violence and increased threats during traffic stops and DUI's.

Uniformed Bike Patrol

The uniformed bike patrol consists of officers which have shown an interest in community policing. These officers attend additional training to respond to emergency situations, use the bike as cover/concealment, and to become more proficient in bike safety and overcoming various physical obstacles in the officers path. Bike Patrol Officers are not on a specific schedule as the mobile patrol officers are, as there are a limited amount of officers available for bike patrol and a limited amount of bikes within the agency that include striping and emergency lights. Of the available  bikes, all were donated or purchased by patrol officers which showed an interest in bike patrol.

Bike Patrol Officers are available to work 3 out of the 4 seasons of the year. During early spring and fall the officer uniforms consist of wind/BDU/bike pants, polo shirt, and bike helmet. Bike Patrol Officers which work during late spring and summer are approved to wear BDU shorts, polo shirt, and bike helmet. All these uniforms have agency patches and distinct "SBPD Bike Unit" and "POLICE" markings on them.
